M-Dor Sound
At Morland, we design our door systems to deliver both certified fire protection and proven sound reduction.
Doors rated dB Rw 40 or above are recognised as highly effective at blocking sound. But real-world performance depends on material selection, precision installation and airtight sealing. Every detail matters.

Understanding dB Rw: How we measure acoustic performance?
dB Rw (Weighted Sound Reduction Index) is the European standard used to rate how effectively a door or wall reduces the transmission of sound. The higher the Rw value, the better the acoustic insulation.
In certified laboratory tests, sound is generated in one room and measured in another. The difference in volume across a range of frequencies (typically 100 Hz–3150 Hz) is used to calculate the Rw rating.
Rw 25 dB – Normal conversation clearly heard through the door
Rw 35 dB – Raised voices are audible but significantly reduced
Rw 40 dB – Most conversation blocked; only very loud sounds faintly perceptible
Rw 50+ dB – Excellent privacy; loud sounds barely audible

Morland fire doors provide a reliable, cost-effective solution that deliver a high level of acoustic performance and fire protection. Independently tested to recognised standards, our standard range achieves sound insulation ratings of dB Rw 33–36, making it well suited to the requirements of most commercial and residential settings.
For demanding environments – such as recording studios, healthcare facilities, premium offices, or hospitality suites – Morland can offer special doors that provide a higher tier of acoustic capability. With sound insulation ratings consistently in the 51–66 dB Rw range, these are among the best-rated fire & acoustic door assemblies available.
Morland is able to provide a solution to meet every durability category of EN1192:2000.
Design Freedom. Thousands of decorative finishes available to suit your needs.

To maximise both fire safety and acoustic performance, M-Dor Sound doors should be specified with high mass and core density. But effective sound insulation also depends on the door’s relationship with its frame. That’s why each door set is supplied pre-hung within its frame, complete with factory-fitted ironmongery. We also incorporate premium acoustic features – such as drop seals or full perimeter gasket systems – to maintain consistent performance on site.

Our fully certified glazed configurations maintain fire and acoustic integrity, ensuring compliance without compromise. Whether used in housing, education or offices, Morland door sets offer dependable everyday protection and peace of mind.

Durability that Lasts
Doors in high-traffic areas inevitably experience surface wear. But Morland’s laminate-faced doors deliver superior resistance to marking and abrasion. Melamine finishes match veneers in terms of durability and both far outperform paper-faced doors.
Every Morland melamine and laminate-faced door is finished with ABS lipping on all four edges, which can be colour-matched to the door face or coordinated with surrounding furniture for a seamless look. ABS lipping is exceptionally tough and outperforms traditional hardwood lipping, helping doors look better for longer.
Door edge damage is often caused by luggage and other impacts, so strong edge impact resistance is critical to extending a door’s service life, another area where Morland doors excel.
